Austrian Economics And The Divine Economy Theory.

As part of your exploration of the divine economy theory you might find it interesting to read comments that I have made over the years to the Mises blog and you may also find it interesting to focus that search even more by reading comments specifically related the divine economy made over the years to the Mises blog.

Why Is Money Regarded Merely As A Unit?

Imagine money at the center of a subjective model (the divine economy model - for example)!

Now: regard money as property protected as a contractual property right by law; flowing in the market and bringing order to what seemed chaotic; giving people the power to easily act on their subjective choices; and also becoming transformed in a variety of ways into a capital structure that is congruent with time preferences.

This begs the question: Why is money regarded merely as a unit when there are so many hidden qualities? Those who have such a diminished view may tolerate the destruction of money by the State but through education this lack of thoughtfulness will vanish.

Empiricists Have A Difficult Time Thinking Subjectively!

There is a difference between an empirical model and a subjectivist model.

The empirical model is quantitative whereas the subjectivist model is qualitative. You buy an apple for 50 cents. That is the piece of data in the empirical model (apple=50 cents).

Or you buy an apple and in that way human action manifests itself, which is part of the flow of information in the ocean of knowledge that surges and surges within the market process in unfathomable power, supplying humanity with all of its needs unless an empiricist tries to squeeze all of that (infinite dynamics) into one piece of data and then tries to interpret it in a way to justify ego-driven intervention and thereby create injustices across the planet and throughout the time horizon.

Empiricism in economics is a major contributing factor why we are living in the Dark Ages of economics.

Is Macroeconomics Or Microeconomics More Original?

We must try to understand the world and how it works - the economy and how it works - within the context of the whole. For example, secession is a macroeconomic policy that is a reflection of individual sovereignty. And for example, money is a medium of exchange that is a tool for macroeconomic efficiency which reflects an individual's desire for efficiency, or in other words, the disutility of labor. Macro and micro are inseparable, there is no doubt, but to amass a body of work known as economics there has to be a desire to understand the world holistically.

The fact that there is no disconnect at the level of the individual shows the continuity across the micro and macro levels. And the fact that human action is the source of all economics does not discount the importance and complexity of the dynamics of the market.

Deducing, using the subjectivist methodology, from the macro level leads to confirmation at the micro level.

Latent Entrepreneurial Spirit vs. Active Entrepreneurial Spirit Is Intriguing.

Entrepreneurship is alertness. Humans are unique in their potential for alertness. Other animals have alertness, limited to certain inherent characteristics, but humans potentially are alert to all things. Of course refinement of that potential is all a part of the advancement of humans; as individuals and an ever-advancing civilization.

Even within the epochal knowledge that is potentially available to humans in today's world there are impediments to that knowledge. Latency is a good explanation of that impediment. Instead of being alert the emtrepreneurial spirit is simply latent. In this regard it can be easily restated as the absence of the investigation of truth.

In other words, entrepreneurship is not exclusively an economic term. Its synonym is alertness. Humans are essentially endowed with this nature and so they possess what can be described as an entrepreneurial spirit. Whether it becomes manifest and to what extent depends on the degree that latent entrepreneurship is transformed into active entrepreneurship (alertness and the independent investigation of truth).

What Is The Divine Economy Theory?

The core of the divine economy theory is the Divine Economy Model. It is a model built using the subjectivist methodology. It starts off conceptually simple but quickly gains complexity and dynamics. It becomes a lens that focuses our vision and makes it easier to see the economic realities.

The amazing congruence that is inherent in the economy is evident at the microeconomic level in the Divine Microeconomy Model and at the interface with ethics in the Ethics of the Divine Economy Model. In other words, macroeconomics and microeconomics and ethics are all inseparable in reality yet each is distinct enough to lead to a magnified scientific understanding by examining each separately.

The essence of divine economy theory is that the equilibrium power that is the motivating force in the economy is like gravity, and it is like magnetism, and it is a manifestation of the power and bounty of God.

It cannot be thwarted, only distorted temporarily. Economic laws reveal how it works.

What is unique about economic equilibrium is that the economy exists only because humans exist and humans act because they exist. Humans are divine since they are created in the image of God, meaning that they possess, in potential, all of the names and attributes of God. The economy is the expression of human action and human action is the expression of the inherent names and attributes of God.

To conclude this description of the divine economy, here is a summary statement: The economy is a divine institution and the term 'divine economy' refers to its equilibriating power.

Is Government An Inherent Part Of Human Nature?

As social beings, humans recognize the advantages of cooperation and so there will always be a pattern in society that will be chosen as the means for advancing civilization. The future pattern that will best serve as the means to that end will be untainted by the desire for power. In other words any and all ego-driven alternative means will be readily recognized as corrupt and quickly discarded.

One word that can be used to describe 'a pattern in society' is 'government' although in the future it will not resemble what is familiar to us or what it looks like now in these Dark Ages of economics.

Divine Economy = Unhampered Free Market Economy.

According to the divine economy theory the divine economy is the equivalent of the unhampered free market economy, however, it is also more than that! That is also the reason why my first book is titled MORE THAN LAISSEZ-FAIRE.

The basic difference has to do with the ontological model. The ontological model used in the divine economy theory is slightly, but significantly, different than the classical ontological model. In addition to the mineral and vegetable and animal and human (intellective) categories the divine economy theory includes a fifth category, the category that acknowledges that humans are also spiritual beings.

Once this realm is brought into the scientific exploration some of the assumed boundaries that serve as limitations disappear. As a result the divine economy theory is opening new vistas. It is cutting edge subjectivism, it is cutting edge economics, it is cutting edge ethics, and it is cutting edge classical liberalism, it is cutting edge education.

How Many Regard The Market Economy As Blameless?

"In the market economy the only way left to the more gifted individuals to take advantage of their superior abilities is to get the masses to believe you are serving them, which might be done by actually serving them, or, alternatively, say, by marketing an addictive product to them and getting them hooked on it."

I wonder how you can stand by your statement, Gene Callahan.

I guess it all depends on your definition of the market economy. My question to you and to others who are critical of the market economy is why stop at the midpoint?

If you understand the implications of a market economy then you understand that information flows at its optimal for each specific time in history. As information flows at its optimum civilization advances and the ethics changes.

Sure you can pick a time along that continuum (when the market economy is distorted by interventionism) and say that addicitive goods are produced and consumed but to use that as a criticism of the market economy is erroneous. The flaw is not in the market economy but rather it is in the character of the individuals at that specific time in history (and it is not unrelated to the corruption of the flow of knowledge caused by interventionism).

Carry that forward in time - when the ethics changes - and then you will see that those playthings will be seen and regarded as silly and even ridiculous. In the future there will still be a market economy (imperfect but relatively more perfect) but without the barbarism of an earlier, less developed civilization.

In other words, it is improper to blame the market economy.
